Capoeira is rapidly growing in popularity because of its mixture of self-defense, rhythm, dance, and the rich cultural heritage of Brazil. Unlike other martial arts, you will often find “capoeristas” smiling while they “play” capoeira. This is because it is fun to practice! Music plays a large part in the capoeria, and those in the roda rotate in an out of the “play” as well as on instruments and singing traditional songs. Brazilian Capoera movements are fluid yet powerful, engaging the entire body.
Few, if any, capoeira schools include the range and combination of fitness courses that K-ONE FITNESS does. At K-ONE FITNESS, we are proud to offer smaller and more individualized classes. Start your gym membership and get a great workout at one of the friendliest gyms in San Francisco.

Originating with African slaves brought to Brazil from west Africa, “Capoeiristas” “play” facing each other in a circle of people called a roda (pronounced “hoda”). Sparring begins with a “ginga”, a steady back and forth, left to right movement, to which feints, front and back kicks, escapes, and sweeps are fluidly added to create a kind of dialog between two people facing off in the center of the roda. Movements in Capoeira can be performed fast or slow, by people of all levels.
