Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a popular form of martial art that is based in ground fighting. It is different from many other ground fighting styles, it teaches fighters how to attack from their backs. Today, all successful MMA fighters train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because of the success that past fighters have had in the sport.

More than four centuries ago in the northern area of India, Buddhist monks were trying to spread the word of ‘Buddha’ in areas that were dangerous to roaming peoples. To defend themselves from attacks, they developed a style of grappling that gave them strength to subdue opponents without killing them. This style of fighting made its way to Japan where it was improved upon and called jiu- jitsu. Judo became  a later derivative of jiu- jitsu.

The Japanese wanted to hide jiu-jitsu and its derivatives from the western world untill 1914, Kodokan Judo master Mitsuyo Maeda (1878-1941) came to stay with Brazil’s Gastao Gracie. Gracie helped Maeda with business in Brazil, in return, Maeda taught Gastao’s eldest son, Carlos, the art of judo. Carlos taught the other children in the family what he learned of judo, including the smallest and youngest of his brothers, Helio.

Helio Gracie was at a disadvantage when fighting with his brothers because many of the moves in judo did not favor the smaller fighter. Because of his size he developed an offshoot of Maeda’s teachings that gave success to leverage over brute strength, he refined fighting from one’s back on the ground. Today the art that Helio created is called Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Tips for Weight Loss

The science to weight loss isn’t a mysterious process despite how it may feel. Weight loss is the result of burning more calories than you consume with food. That being said if it was really that easy, no one would have a weight problem. Losing Weight can be a struggle, but thinking you need an extreme diet, pills or fitness gadgets that promise instant success, truly are not the answers to a healthier body. In order to lose one pound of fat, one must burn about 3,500 calories on top of what is already burned doing daily activities. This may sound like an overwhelming amount of calories, but you certainly won’t want to try burning 3,500 calories in one day. By taking your weight loss goal step-by-step, you can determine just what you need to do each day to burn or cut out those extra calories. The secret to weight loss is to make small changes each and every day. You will slowly (but eventually) lose extra unwanted pounds. Forget about instant results, set little goals that will bring you long term changes and help you reach your ultimate goal.

Setting Achievable Fitness Goals

Goal setting is an important part of sticking to a consistent fitness routine, weight loss or the improvement/prevention of various health concerns. In the beginning of a new routine, it’s easy to be excitemed about starting something new. Once the adrenaline rush begins to slow down you need to figure out how to stay motivated. This is why it becomes extremely important to create realistic, specific, measurable, attainable goals.

You will need to ask yourself some questions. Why is your goal important to you, what would you like to achieve and how do you plan on succeeding? You will want to make sure your goals are clear and easy to follow.

Making several short-term goals along with your long term goal will allow you to reach that long term goal more efficiently. For example, a major long-term goal may be to “run a marathon some day,” while good short-term goals can be to go running 3 days a week for a half hour everyday. Measuring progress will allow you to stay on track.

Attainable and realistic goals need to be made in order to achieve them. If you set a goal that is too difficult to reach, you may never reach that goal. Realistic goals need to be made so you push yourself just enough to be challenged during your workouts. Attempting to reach goals that are too difficult can lead to failure.

Making sure your goals are timely will also be important. If you don’t set a time frame by when you’d like to reach certain short-term goals, there will be no clear target to work towards.

good fitness goals along with strong self motivation will be the greatest indicators of success!
